The mayor of Wausau, Wis., has told the local labor council that it’ll have to reimburse the city as much as $2,000 if it sticks by its decision to ban Republicans from its Labor Day parade. "This is not a political rally, it’s a parade, for God’s sake," Mayor Jim Tipple told Reuters. Though the parade is sponsored by the labor council, the city spends $1,500 to $2,000 each year on things like insurance, setting up the stage, and paying for security. Tipple doesn’t belong to either party, but says excluding either side from the festivities "flies in the face of public policy." (More Wisconsin stories.)
