Leading NBA agent Arn Tellem has penned a letter to his clients—who make up some 12% of the players' union—"imploring" them to kick out the head of their union. Billy Hunter, who has headed the union since 1996, recently faced a critical outside audit; Tellem says Hunter has "put his personal gain above those of the players." Hunter, Tellem writes, was "tactically, strategically, and logistically unprepared" to deal with the 2011 NBA lockout and was "outmaneuvered" by Commissioner David Stern.

Moreover, as revealed in the audit, "Hunter’s financial indiscretions and fiduciary breaches are alarming, if not downright shocking," Tellem notes. The agent cites nepotism, expensive vacations, and an $18 million contract that wasn't player-approved among his grievances. Tellem, who represents some 50 players including an array of stars, is the first agent to make a public demand for Hunter's ouster, the New York Times reports. Players, however—among them Deron Williams of the Nets—have urged the move, and other agents have serious problems with the union boss. (More NBA stories.)
