The 27-year-old son of a Connecticut couple who mysteriously disappeared in early August was charged with their murders Friday night, the Hartford Courant reports. The story of Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin drew national attention this summer because the couple was more than $2 million in debt when they went missing. Police became interested in their son, Kyle Navin, in part because of some suspicious texts between him and his father. According to the New York Times, one of the last interactions anyone had with the Navins was a text exchange between Jeffrey and Kyle in which Jeffrey accused Kyle of killing Jeanette and attempting to frame him for the murder. Kyle denied his father's accusations. Kyle has been in custody since last month on an unrelated gun charge.

The remains of Jeffrey and Jeanette were found Tuesday by a property owner clearing brush at a vacant home, the Times reports. According to the Courant, police found their blood in Kyle's truck and basement. During the earlier investigation in the Navins' disappearance, Kyle allegedly changed his story multiple times, and his parents' cellphones both "mysteriously stopped working" near his home. The Times reports the Navins were worried about their son's heroin use and were planning to cut him out of their will. He allegedly sent texts to his girlfriend, Jennifer Valiante, earlier in the summer about having a plan to take out his parents and give them a "wealthy and amazing life." Valiante was arrested Friday and charged with conspiracy to commit murder and obstruction of justice, according to the Courant. (More missing person stories.)
