Disappointment for Dallas, Toronto, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and most of the other cities and regions on Amazon's shortlist: Sources tell the Wall Street Journal and other outlets that the company has picked sites in Northern Virginia and New York City for its "second headquarters." The Journal's sources say the tech giant will announce as soon as Tuesday that the new headquarters will be split into two "co-headquarters" located in the Crystal City area of Virginia's Arlington County and in the Long Island City district of Queens. Insiders say lawmakers in both of the areas chosen plan to hold events Tuesday to discuss the new Amazon sites, which are expected have around 25,000 employees each.

Sources tell the Journal that Crystal City, an area close to the Pentagon that has been in decline in recent years, appealed to Amazon because of its proximity to Reagan National Airport—and it helped that Jeff Bezos has a home about 20 minutes away. The choice of Crystal City is a major victory for Virginia lawmakers and could "reshape the Washington region into an eastern outpost of Silicon Valley," the Washington Post reports. In New York City, meanwhile, officials stress that the arrival of Amazon will deliver "tangible gains" to residents of Long Island City, which is also the site of Queensbridge Houses, the nation's largest housing project, the New York Times reports. (Amazon recently announced a pay boost for longtime workers.)
