Mandy Moore was "in awe" of Ryan Adams at first. But well into their seven-year marriage, "I felt like I was drowning." The This Is Us actress digs into what went wrong on Monday's episode of the "WTF With Marc Maron" podcast, recorded before Moore described Adams' "controlling behavior" in a New York Times expose, per Pitchfork. Married in 2009, Moore said she took on a motherly role for Adams, who was "estranged from his family," as her own family dynamic fell apart, reports the Hollywood Reporter. "It made me feel like I had value," but "I think my co-dependency fed into his co-dependency and some other underlying issues," the 34-year-old says. It was "an entirely unhealthy dynamic" and "the perfect cacophony of madness."

Moore's career took a backseat because "I was living my life for him," she said. "I was so lonely, I was so sad," she added, per E! "I couldn't do my job because there was a constant stream of trying to pay attention to this person who needed me and wouldn't let me do anything else." The couple eventually divorced in 2016 because "I knew that this wasn't the person I was supposed to be with, I knew that I wasn't the person I was meant to be," Moore said. She teased more details to come, noting she plans to record an album with new husband and singer Taylor Goldsmith, and songwriter Blake Mills. "I feel like I've lived a life in the last 10 years. I have got plenty to say," she said. (The FBI is reportedly investigating Adams, whose latest album has been put on hold.)
