Huntington Beach, Calif.—aka Surf City—is considering a total ban on drinking games, beer pong chief among them, at city establishments. The police chief, who says they're "not consistent with maintaining public safety in the city," has outlawed them at existing restaurants, and the city council is poised to add incoming sites to the list. This in the city that hosted a 2008 satellite tournament to the beer pong world championships in Vegas.

"We are trying to put things in place that encourage better citizenship," the city's economic development director tells the Orange Country Register. But "beer pong is good for business,'' counters an employee at one downtown bar. "They shouldn't ban it,'' adds a patron. "Beer pong is awesome.'' (More Surf City stories.)
