The Mexican TV reporter who was the target of hurled footballs and catcalls by the New York Jets has slammed the women's sportswriters group that rushed to her defense. "Today I wonder why a well respected association acted so impulsively," Ines Sainz wrote in a column in El Universal entitled "My September 11 in New York." Sainz said she was "shaken" by how the story was treated in the media, and believes the coverage "set back the woman's rights movement by at least 50 years."

After the Association for Women in Sports Media complained about her treatment at a Jets practice while Sainz was covering a story earlier this month, Jets officials apologized to Sainz and have launched a team sensitivity training program. Critics have said Sainz should not have been surprised by her reception because she and Azteca TV deliberately market her as the "hottest reporter" in TV. Read how Sainz has flip-flopped on the issue here.
