Tinder's latest feature allows your friends and family to get seriously invested in your love life. The dating app's new Matchmaker feature, now available in 15 countries including the US, allows users to start a 24-hour "matchmaker" session in which a link is shared with up to 15 friends or relatives who can then use that link to view potential matches for the Tinder user and recommend profiles they think would be a good match, the Verge reports. The friends and family members (who can view the potential matches even if they themselves are not Tinder users) are not able to contact the potential matches whose profiles they are viewing, and cannot swipe right or left on the user's behalf. Even so, there are privacy concerns, the BBC reports.
"If you're a dating app user, you're happy to leave a digital footprint—but with other singles on the other side of the swipe," a dating expert and professional matchmaker tells the outlet. "So the idea that people that you do not know and don't necessarily see their faces—they're looking at your profile ... I don't know how I feel about that." Rival dating app Bumble already has a similar feature, and, per Mashable, a Tinder study found that 75% of Tinder users are already talking about their dating lives with friends multiple times a month—meaning they're possibly already passing around the Tinder app, Matchmaker feature or no.
