(AP Photo/Peter Morgan, File) Stocks gained today on optimism over Intel's earnings, due after the bell, despite an unexpected drop in December retail sales and a rise in business inventories, the Wall Street Journal reports. The Dow added 30 points to close at 10,711. The Nasdaq gained 9 points, closing at 2,317. The S&P 500 grew by 3 points, settling at 1,149.
