Colorado Rockies fan Aquilina Ibanez sits at a computer terminal at the public library in Denver on Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, where she tried for over two hours to buy World Series tickets online. The Rockies blamed an “external malicious attack” for the crash of a partner company’s server who was handling the sale of World Series tickets, and said they'll try again tomorrow. The site received 8.5 million hits in 90 minutes but, according to a company spokesman, traffic was not the issue. Only a few hundred of the estimated 60,000 available tickets were sold, reports the Rocky Mountain News.

The remaining tickets will be sold exclusively online, much to the chagrin of the hundreds who lined up outside Coors Field today. “The online system clearly isn't working. They had weeks to figure this out,” said one disgruntled fan, and Colorado management was booed when they turned the fans away. The club says it has a contingency plan in place if another attack occurs. (More Colorado Rockies stories.)
