Carl Paladino Still Must Explain His Racist Emails

Carl Paladino's camp has dismissed the controversy over his forwarding of racist, sexist, and pornographic emails as "bad judgment." Not nearly good enough, writes Bob Herbert at the New York Times. After all, the man is running for New York governor, and "the images and videos are so blatantly hostile to blacks and women that it’s fair to wonder whether Mr. Paladino is prejudiced against them."

They're so awful that news outlets often shy away from recounting them, writes Herbert, who details one cartoon with the caption "Run n******, run." So what's the deal—is Paladino "a racist, sexist, pornography-loving creep" or are there "benign" explanations for his emails? Either way, "I don’t think voters quite know what they might be getting with Mr. Paladino," writes Herbert. "New Yorkers need to hear much more from him." Click here for all things Paladino.
