A 16-year-old driving more than twice the speed limit crashed into a Brooklyn home yesterday, killing his 13-year-old passenger. Eric Hakimisefat has his junior driver's permit, but seemingly wasn't following two of the permit's regulations as he drove the victim and her brother home: There was no adult in the car with them, and there was more than one passenger younger than 21. Sarah Erdan died of head injuries shortly after the 1:45pm crash, the New York Daily News reports.
Hakimisefat was driving a minivan at least 63mph on a one-way, single-lane street, police estimate. He lost control around the corner from Erdan's house and ran into a parked car, then a tree, before going through a fence into a porch. He and the other 16-year-old passenger walked out of the van with only minor injuries, but Erdan was trapped in the back "She was crying in the car," says a neighbor, "but then we couldn't hear her anymore." Hakimisefat was charged with criminally negligent homicide.
