What started as a routine bus trip for the Western Kentucky University women's volleyball team ended up a near disaster. As the team left home at Bowling Green, all seemed normal—until coach Travis Hudson realized the bus was on the rumble strips on the side of the road and crossing into the median heading toward oncoming traffic, reports the Bowling Green Daily News.
Hudson snatched open the curtain separating the driver from the rest of the bus to discover the driver slumped over the wheel. “I crawled over top of him, got into the seat, found the brake and was able to get us stopped. By the grace of God, our bus didn’t flip.” The driver was pronounced dead at a local hospital from a probable heart attack, but police say Hudson's quick reaction likely prevented other injuries and deaths.
