In the latest effort to find their missing daughter, Kate and Gerry McCann yesterday released an artist's impression of a man seen carrying a child near the McCanns' vacation apartment in Portugal on the evening of Maddy's disappearance. The sketch is based on the testimony of a friend dining with the McCanns at the time, the Guardian reports.

The woman said she did not realize the significance of what she had seen until later, after Madeleine was reported missing. The image, sketched by an FBI-trained forensic artist, shows a slender man with lank brown hair. It was released with the "tacit approval" of Portuguese police, who consider the McCanns suspects. The McCanns have also launched a 24-hour confidential telephone line. (More Madeleine McCann stories.)
