Ohio State didn't have to punt once in the course of last night's solid defeat of the Penn State Nittany Lions as the first-ranked team won its 27th-straight victory. Penn State saw an early 7-3 lead trickle, and then gush, away as the Buckeyes stayed "one step ahead of us all night," coach Joe Paterno told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.

Ohio State quarterback Todd Boeckman made 19 of 26 passes for 253 yards, and Chris Wells rushed 133 yards on 25 carries. Penn State's A.J. Wallace took a kickoff return 97 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but the Buckeyes had left no room for a Lions comeback. (More Big Ten stories.)
