Sweden’s bespectacled King Carl Gustaf seemed respectable almost to the point of dullness, with such innocent hobbies as hunting and attending jamborees. A scandalous new book, however, changes all that: The Reluctant Monarch alleges the 64-year-old king, married 34 years to Queen Silvia, has attended sex parties hosted by a Mafia boss, spent thousands at strip clubs, and engaged in late-night whirlpool liaisons with aspiring models.

In one of the wilder stories, the king supposedly slept with two women at the same time to celebrate a successful elk hunt, the Daily Mail reports. He is also alleged to have had a long affair with Camilla Henemark, a Swedish singer; the two reportedly talked of running off together to an island and living off coconuts. The Swedish secret service supposedly attempted to cover up most of these escapades, even pressuring women to surrender compromising pictures of the king.
