Suu Kyi Told She 'Could Go This Day'

Rumors are swirling that Aung San Suu Kyi will be released today, according to the AP, but the Guardian reports that she will spend another night under house arrest. She was told she "could go this day," says the co-founder of her National League for Democracy party, but negotiations with the Burmese junta stalled. The military regime reportedly signed a release order today, but is trying to impose conditions and restrictions on her freedom that Suu Kyi does not want to accept.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner’s house arrest was scheduled to end tomorrow, say her lawyers. But Suu Kyi, who has been confined for 15 of the last 21 years, won’t accept freedom with conditions attached, they say.
