Dan Rather has decided it's time to sum up his 60-year career in journalism. The veteran newsman has signed a book deal with Grand Central Publishing for his memoir, Mediabistro reports. The book, to be titled Summing Up, will look at historical events including Watergate and the JFK assassination, and is scheduled for publication in the spring of 2012.

"With the changing climate—and attitude— about news and journalists, I feel I can give readers an honest perspective on the present, and, more important, on the future of news,” Rather said. His publisher says the book will also include a very "personal and candid" look at his departure from CBS in 2006 amid a storm of controversy.
