A criminal investigation is under way into WikiLeaks' release of hundreds of thousands of classified documents, Reuters reports. “To the extent that we can find anybody who was involved in the breaking of American law,” said Attorney General Eric Holder, “they will be held responsible, they will be held accountable.” Meanwhile, the government will work to close any “gaps” in the law regarding the exposure of classified materials.

The Obama administration today told US agencies to move to prevent such leaks in the future. “Any failure by agencies to safeguard classified information pursuant to relevant laws … is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” said the head of the Office of Management and Budget in a memo. Agencies with access to classified materials must create a “security assessment team” to review safety procedures, ABC News notes.
