You know this editorial at the conservative National Review isn't going to end well for Michael Steele when the editors start by saying they "admire his pluck." It's pretty much downhill from there as they call for someone else—anyone else, really—to take over the Republican National Committee. The party had a great election night in spite of Steele, not because of him, and his alienation of big donors prevented even bigger gains, they write.

His "poor performance as chairman has had one fortunate side effect—it has created a robust field of alternatives," says the editorial. "It gives us no pleasure to say this, but none of them would be worse than Steele, and we believe any of them would be better. Someone else deserves a chance at the top of the RNC."
