Some of the leading voices of modern atheism—the likes of Christopher Hitchens, Bill Maher, and Sam Harris—tend to view people of faith as closed-minded fools, writes fellow atheist S.E. Cupp in the Daily News. But with their smug condescension, she thinks they're the ones guilty of the charge. "The militant atheist wants nothing more than to spoil the believer's spiritual journey," she writes. "That's both meanspirited and radically unenlightened."
For them, the issue is settled, and the only thing left to do is ridicule. "It's these snarky and condescending rejections, not of faith itself but of those who profess it, that reflect a total unwillingness to learn something new about human nature, the world around us and even of science itself," she writes. "While the neoatheists pay only cursory attention to dismantling arguments for God, they spend most of their time painting his followers as uncultured rubes." Try a little humility, she suggests.
