Jon Stewart must really hate AT&T. After Monday’s sobering monologue about Gabrielle Giffords, the Daily Show took on a lighter topic last night, devoting the whole first segment to rejoicing over the Verizon iPhone announcement—and pummeling AT&T. "For the past three or four years, those of us in the iPhone community have sacrificed one thing for the ability to carry around every photograph we’ve ever taken," Stewart deadpanned: "The ability to make phone calls."
John Oliver then put in a faux-video call to Stewart, only to repeatedly lose his signal. "I’m sorry Jon, I think I must have looked at a tunnel," he said. Then they ran a field piece in which Oliver interviewed a half dozen iPhone users, all of whom hated the tyrannical "regime" of AT&T. "I feel like we’re technology hostage!" one woman complained. Oliver replied, "That is definitely, definitely not overstating it." (More The Daily Show stories.)
