Authorities call it a "living hell", a Long Island basement filled with 13 tortured dogs and two cats, and the remains of 26 dead animals. The surviving animals were dehydrated and filthy, covered with urine and feces, their mouths taped shut, living in two feet of trash amid the bodies of the dead animals. "The people who did this are sick and evil," said one investigator. Faith Ross, 54, a secretary, and daughter Francesca Maselli, 24, a nursing-home aide, pleased not guilty to three felony counts of animal abuse, reports the New York Post.
