Lawmakers Pair Off for State of the Union

With Democrats and Republicans asking out each other and coupling up, Tuesday's State of the Union address is transforming from high partisanship to high school prom, reports Politico. Some are pairing up by region, with the senators from Pennsylvania and Illinois sitting together. Others are sitting by job function, like House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, or the co-chairs of the Congressional Cancer Caucus.

Perhaps symbolic of the whole event are Republican Pete King and Democrat Anthony Weiner, who will be sitting together. King's wife called them the "biggest loudmouths" in the House. "I’m going to be sitting on the Republican side, so not only will Peter King be my date, he may be my security detail also,” says Weiner. But King warns not to expect any bromances: “It’s not ‘Kumbaya’—we may end up doing dueling press conferences afterward."
