After last week’s massive mob bust, officials fear a bloody mob war is coming. Investigators got their information from informants who taped conversations—and those who managed to escape the bust are probably “going to kill people,” one source close to the investigation tells the New York Post, “because the guys running around making the tapes were made members of the family. I’ve heard that people are looking to retaliate.”
“Made” men take an oath of silence, and at least two of the informants were “well-positioned” and fairly high-ranking, leaving one crime family “very much in shock over what happened,” the source continues. “They’re reckless killers, and sometimes it doesn’t take much for them to decide someone has to go.” The new generation of mobsters has more informants than in days past, says another FBI agent. “They talk big, but they can’t do the time,” he explains. “They don’t have the wherewithal to cultivate the politicians and judges.” (In a mob mood?
