A female missionary from the US was fatally shot in Mexico yesterday, the AP reports. Husband Sam Davis drove his wife, Nancy, 59, back over the border after gunmen in a pickup shot her in the head after trying to stop their vehicle, he told police. Davis drove against traffic across the Pharr International Bridge in a frantic bid to get his wife help, but she was pronounced dead at a Texas hospital.

Police said the Davises are active missionaries who traveled all around Mexico. The death echoes the case of David and Tiffany Hartley in September. Gunmen—police suspect drug cartel members—fired on them as they were riding jet skis on a border lake, killing David. "I don't know them, but my heart breaks for them," Tiffany Hartley said of the Davises.
