Celebrity | Ashlee Simpson Pete Wentz Tried to Stop Divorce: Sources What went wrong? Friends of Ashlee Simpson, Pete Wentz weigh in By Evann Gastaldo Posted Feb 10, 2011 10:25 AM CST Copied Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and her husband Pete Wentz arrive for a screening of "Runaway," Oct. 18, 2010, in Los Angeles. (AP Photo/Chris Pizzello) So what’s behind the out-of-the-blue Ashlee Simpson-Pete Wentz divorce? Depends on whose side—and which gossip site—you believe. One set of sources tells TMZ Ashlee “really wanted out” because she couldn’t handle “Pete’s erratic behavior,” but sources from Wentz’s side say that’s not true, and that the couple simply grew apart. It was especially hard for them since Wentz kept touring, while Ashlee got out of showbiz after their son was born, says one. Other sources add that Wentz absolutely did not want the divorce, and tried to convince Simpson not to file the papers. But whoever is talking to People says the split was “amicable” and concurs with the “growing apart” reasoning. All of this is still causing raised eyebrows, however, because the last photo taken of the pair shows a seemingly happy family (Radar has the picture, taken only two days before Ashlee filed for divorce), and Simpson was tweeting just last month about missing her husband, Perez Hilton notes.
