The biggest threat to Planned Parenthood isn’t that 'sting' video, it’s Mike Pence. The Indiana Republican is on a one-man mission to cut off all the group’s federal funding. For three years in a row, he’s introduced legislation to ban any entity performing abortions from receiving funds from Title X, the federal reproductive health program, Politico reports. This week, he went one further by singling out Planned Parenthood alone in an amendment.
Planned Parenthood doesn’t use federal funds to pay for abortions, which make up about 3% of its patient services, but it does rely on them for pelvic exams, breast exams, and counseling. But that’s not enough separation for Pence. “We should end the day when the largest abortion provider is the largest recipient of [Title X] federal funding,” he says. So far, his latest bill has garnered 164 co-sponsors. (More Planned Parenthood stories.)
