Possible presidential contender Mike Huckabee isn't taking on birthers, but he is grousing about a birth. He has slammed Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman for being pregnant out of wedlock. It's "troubling" to see people like "Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, 'Hey look, we're having children, we're not married, but we're having these children, and they're doing just fine,'" Huck complained to radio host Michael Medved. "It's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out of children wedlock."
He said Portman's example is particularly harmful to poor women who don't have access to her wealth to ease the demands of single motherhood. "Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care," he added. "That's the story that we're not seeing." Portman has not responded, notes MediaMatters. Her babydaddy, Black Swan choreographer and fiance Benjamin Millepied, has "now given me the most important role of my life," the actress said at her acceptance speech for the Best Actress award. It's too bad he didn't give her the "most wonderful gift—a wedding ring," snorted Medved. (More Natalie Portman stories.)
