Lady Gaga is backing out of a business deal with Target because of continued controversy following the corporation's contributions to a group fighting gay rights. Target came under fire last year for donations to MN Forward, a political action committee that supported anti-gay candidate Tom Emmer in his failed bid for governor in Minnesota, where the company is headquartered.
Gaga's deal with Target "hinged" upon the discount retailer's "reform to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they've made," the pop star said last month. That, apparently, didn't happen. The agreement to split was "mutual," a Gaga rep tells E! Online. The singer had planned to release an exclusive edition of her album Born This Way to Target.
