A tour bus overturned on I-95 in the Bronx this morning, catastrophically slicing off its roof on a road sign and killing 14 people, reports the Daily News. About 20 people remain hospitalized, with at least six in critical condition. The bus driver told police he lost control after a tractor-trailer swerved in front of him. After he slammed into a guardrail, the bus flipped, then skidded into the steel pole of a traffic sign.
"The bus was cut into two parts by the pole," said one survivor. Police are still searching for the tractor-trailer, which didn't stop. The bus, operated by World Wide Tours, was returning from Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut. The crash happened about 5:30am, when most aboard were sleeping. Click for other passenger accounts.
