It's time to abolish the IRS, eliminate federal income taxes, and cut back on Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment payments. That's the word from first-time Tea Party Florida Congressman Allen West. What should the US keep? Tax cuts for billionaires so they continue funding charities, says the Republican. He's also a big proponent of a new $21 million federal grant for a runway at Fort Lauderdale's airport. "Grant money is not pork," West said, pointing out that the project will generate some 11,000 jobs.

West is likely to face stiff opposition next term for his controversial policies, but that isn't stopping other Tea Party favorites from backing similar positions, notes AP. South Carolina newbie Rep. Trey Gowdy said recently he was stunned by a recent survey of an elementary classroom, where students "think it's the government's job to provide health care, Social Security, and education." We've "got to do something about the sense of entitlement," he complained. West is on a "watch out" list of frosh politicians in DC. For others, check here. (More Allen West stories.)
