Snap Together Devices Could Revolutionize Electronics Biz
Bug is an open source, modular consumer electronics platform that the designers claim makes building hardware as easy as writing software or Web applications.   (Bug Labs)

A line of electronic devices that snap together like Legos could revolutionize the consumer electronics industry. Discovery News reports a New York software developer came up with the system, which is open source, so that numerous innovators can contribute new devices. A hub called a Bugbase contains the basics electronics. Up to 81 devices, called Bugmodules snap on the base.

An online community called the Bugnet allows users to share what they've built with other users, get feedback, and trade advice. People will also be able to download specs and source code from the site to create new modules. The devices may be available by the end of the year. (More consumer electronics stories.)
