It's the perfect ending, really. Jon Kyl has officially removed from the Congressional Record his comment that 90% of Planned Parenthood's business is abortion, notes Ben Smith's blog at Politico. That, you'll recall, is the statement that drew scorn because it's so wildly inaccurate and then ridicule because Kyl's office explained it "was not intended to be a factual statement." (Stephen Colbert had a field day.)
Senators are allowed to revise their comments in the official record, and Kyl's now says: "If you want an abortion you go to Planned Parenthood and that is what Planned Parenthood does." The percentage is nowhere in sight. "Not only did Kyl not intend his comment to be 'a factual statement,' he did not intend it to be a statement at all," notes Juli Weiner at Vanity Fair.
