Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld thinks the controversial Guantanamo Bay military prison may deserve some credit for Osama bin Laden's death. The new intelligence that allowed the US to find bin Laden "very well could have been partly a result of the interviews that took place at Guantanamo," he said this morning on Today.
Rumsfeld was apparently referencing reports indicating Guantanamo Bay detainees may have provided information about individuals who were supporting bin Laden, The Hill notes. Specifically, a senior administration official told reporters that detainees in US custody revealed the nickname of a trusted courier, who officials reportedly tracked to the compound Osama was killed in.
