Mitt Romney is about to grab the third rail of 2012 candidacy—health care reform. He plans a major address on the subject Thursday on ways to "repeal and replace Obamacare," reports the Los Angeles Times. Romney's big knock as a candidate, of course, is that he implemented an insurance overhaul in Massachusetts with many of the features that eventually showed up in Obama's plan, including a requirement that people buy insurance.

Given that the GOP is using the subject as a major line of attack against the White House, how well Romney differentiates his plan from the president's may well determine the fate of his candidacy, notes the Boston Globe. Romney has defended his plan as "not perfect" but appropriate for his state. He criticizes Obama's as a blanket federal approach. (More Mitt Romney 2012 stories.)
