Now that another prophecy about the end of the world has has fizzled, attention is turning to the 89-year-old radio evangelist who made the prediction in the first place. Harold Camping has made no statement yet, his Family Radio website has yet to be updated, and the preacher is nowhere to be found, reports the New York Daily News. His house has the shades down and his Family Radio headquarters has a sign up that says "The Office is Closed. Sorry we missed you!"
It's not the first time Camping has been wrong about the Rapture. He predicted the End of Days back in 1994, but when it failed to occur, he blamed his math for the error. Meanwhile, Camping's followers seem more puzzled than angry. "I do not understand why nothing has happened," said one retiree who spent more than $140,000 on signs and posters warning of the Judgment Day. (More Harold Camping stories.)
