The chairwoman of the DNC—who slammed Republican 2012 hopefuls for putting the US auto industry at risk by favoring foreign automakers—herself owns a foreign car, the Hill reports. “If it were up to the candidates for president on the Republican side, we would be driving foreign cars; they would have let the auto industry in America go down the tubes,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said, referencing their opposition to Obama's 2009 bailouts for GM and Chrysler.
But her family owns a 2010 Infiniti FX35 made by Nissan, a Japanese company, Florida motor vehicle records show—and its license plate features her initials, leading the Hill to speculate that she's the one driving it. A DNC rep fired back at the news: “If Republican opposition researchers are snooping around garages, they should know that if Republicans—who said that we should let the US auto industry go bankrupt—had their way, they wouldn’t find a single American made car anywhere.” (More Debbie Wasserman Schultz stories.)
