Perhaps the French shouldn't start popping their corks just yet for Dominique Strauss-Kahn. It turns out the hotel maid's account of a sexual assault by the former head of the IMF was very convincing, and the only inconsistencies in her story concerned what happened afterward, reports the New York Times. The maid told a sex assault counselor in a Manhattan hospital that a naked Strauss-Kahn pushed her onto his bed when she entered his room and attempted to force her to have oral sex, according to the detailed counselor's report. She slipped from his grasp before he assaulted her again, grabbing for her crotch and finally forcing her into oral sex, according to the report.
Inconsistencies in her story, which undermined the case against Strauss-Kahn, concerned what happened after the alleged attack. The maid first said she was in the room while Strauss Kahn dressed, but later said she left immediately. Prosecutors are convinced the maid was sexually assaulted, but will likely drop the case because of that inconsistency, as well as lies linked to taxes and her refugee status, the Times reports. The maid is suing the New York Post for reporting that she worked as a prostitute. French Socialists are already discussing backing Strauss-Kahn as a candidate for president, even though he is now being sued by a French writer for attempted rape. He has counter sued.
