It would probably be fine with Yankees brass if Derek Jeter takes all season to reach 3,000 hits. Ticket sales and prices on the secondary market have skyrocketed in anticipation of the shortstop reaching the milestone, which he should do any day now. Tickets that fetched $80 last week are averaging $165 for this weekend's series, reports MarketWatch.

Jeter's two-hit game yesterday leaves him four shy of 3,000. The Yankees play a game in Cleveland tonight before a four-game home stand against the Tampa Bay Rays. Typical Yankees games see more than 20,000 tickets hit the secondary market, but this weekend's games have only 5,000 and 9,000 still available, says the director of online ticket broker FanSnap. "The demand is consistent with what New Yorkers do when there’s a big event coming up,” he says. “We see more pronounced and more sudden price rises for Yankees events than for any other team.” (More Derek Jeter stories.)
