Faced with an economy they fear is worsening, Americans are making the ultimate sacrifice: They’re no longer buying their morning joe, a Harris poll finds. Some 21% of respondents said coffee doesn’t fit their budgets, Fox News reports. They’re making other changes to their eating habits, too: Nearly half are bringing lunch to work rather than buying it, 40% have turned to refillable water bottles, and 75% are opting for generic brands.
They’re chopping their entertainment bills, too: 22% aren’t subscribing to cable, and 31% have canceled magazine subscriptions. The only thing not getting cut, it seems, is Americans’ hair. About 40% are going to the hairdresser less often. Americans aren’t yet willing to forego their cell phones, however, nor are they ready to give up driving their cars to work.
