Amanda Knox's appeal of her murder conviction has just gotten harder: A forensic scientist involved in her conviction is promising to refute an independent report that declared the DNA evidence she gave was unreliable, reports the Guardian. "I am angry about the false statements in this report and ready to come to court to highlight the past record of these experts," says Patrizia Stefanoni. "I am also looking into taking legal action against them."
The report accuses Stefanoni of ignoring international DNA protocols. "What international DNA protocols are they talking about? The Italian police is a member of the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI), while they are not," says Stefanoni. "We followed the guidelines of the ENFSI, theirs is just a collage of different international opinions." One Italian police source suggests that Knox's defense team fed information to the DNA evidence review team. (More Amanda Knox stories.)
