The case against two men accused of beating Giants fan Bryan Stow into a coma outside Dodger Stadium has been dealt a serious setback by a salad. Key witness Matthew Lee, who was also assaulted by Stow's attackers, died suddenly on the weekend, apparently after suffering an allergic reaction from eating a salad that contained peanuts, law enforcement sources tell the Los Angeles Times.
Officials say that even without Lee's testimony, they have plenty of physical evidence linked the two men arrested last month to the attack on Stow, who is still in hospital with a traumatic brain injury. Prosecutors say chief suspect Louie Sanchez accosted several other Giants fans before hitting Stow with a punch that knocked him to the ground and fractured his skull. Sanchez's friend then kicked Stow, stood over his prone body and said, 'Who else wants to fight?'" prosecutors say. (More Dodger Stadium stories.)
