Pencil it in as one of the better Senate races to watch in 2012: Elizabeth Warren vs. Scott Brown in Massachusetts. It now looks like a safe bet that Warren will enter the contest, writes Sam Stein in the Huffington Post. Warren herself ratcheted up the speculation by posting a blog on the liberal BlueMassGroup site that sounds an awful lot like a potential candidate preparing to run. “It is time for me to think hard about what role I can play next to help rebuild a middle class that has been hacked at, chipped at, and pulled at for more than a generation—and that that is under greater strain every day,” she wrote. The Boston Globe sees the post as the "clearest signal yet" of a possible run.

Maybe more telling is that Warren has enlisted the help of two top Democratic operatives in the state and has begun making the requisite phone calls to party officials, notes Stein, who adds that a formal decision is expected after Labor Day. Rumors of a run have been flying ever since Warren got passed over to lead the new consumer protection bureau. (More Elizabeth Warren stories.)
