Troops loyal to Moammar Gadhafi committed heinous atrocities and war crimes during the siege of Misrata, according to a new report from the Physicians for Human Rights, but the allegation that’s making headlines is actually against a civilian. The report cites a father who slit the throats of three of his daughters, aged 15, 17, and 18 after they were raped by pro-Gadhafi forces, the Daily Mail reports.

Researchers were told Gadhafi’s men used rape as a weapon, and though they didn’t find evidence of widespread sexual assault, the fear of it was thick. One witness told the group that Gadhafi’s men had turned an elementary school into a detention site, and there raped women and girls as young as 14. They also found evidence that Gadhafi’s troops had used children as human shields, attacked hospitals, and been ordered to starve the city. They could not, however, find evidence confirming this shocking accusation. (More Moammar Gadhafi stories.)
