Life in exile in Niger is looking pretty peachy for Saadi Gadhafi. The Gadhafi son, who fled over Libya's southern border earlier this week, is living in luxury in a state guesthouse next to Niger's presidential palace, according to the Telegraph. Numerous generals loyal to the deposed dictator have also found comfortable refuge in the capital of Niger, which benefited greatly from decades of Gadhafi's largesse.
Saadi, who commanded a military unit that brutally quashed protests, has had his travel proscribed by the United Nations. Niger's justice minister says it looks like the country is stuck with the Gadhafi associates for now and stresses that Saadi and his cohorts are under house arrest, despite their plush surroundings, "Any of those with guns have had their weapons removed. We have taken all mobile phones and laptops," he says. "They will not be allowed to destabilize our neighbor through political activities. (More Saadi Gadhafi stories.)
