Peterson Asked Truckers to Haul Package: Cops
Former Bolingbrook police officer Drew Peterson poses for a photo shoot on the back deck of his home as a photo assistant holds a reflector Monday, Nov 19, 2007 in Bolingbrook, Ill. Peterson's wife 28 year old Stacy Peterson was reported missing on Oct. 29, 2007 and authorities continue to search for...   (Associated Press)

Two truckers have identified Drew Peterson as the man who they say asked them to deliver a package at 3:30am the morning after his wife, Stacy, disappeared, Illinois police said yesterday. The drivers say they refused, reports the Chicago Tribune, but the ex-police sergeant issued an angry denial to ABC News, calling the claim "totally fictitious."

The drivers say the man identified as Peterson and a companion asked them to take a package to an undisclosed location, where the two men would finish transporting it. Peterson continues to deny involvement, but the incident has offered hope to Stacy's family members eager for a breakthrough. "The fact that the police is releasing [this information] means they're getting close," said a family friend. (More Drew Peterson stories.)
