Occupy Trumps Tea Party in Google Searches

Americans are more fascinated by Occupy Wall Street than the Tea Party—if Google is the judge. The first “spark of interest” in the Occupy movement on Google was Sept. 16, and it overtook the Tea Party about a week later, Google’s politics blog reports. Sure, the Zuccotti Park occupiers have the advantage of being more recent. But even if you compare the all-time peak search traffic for each movement—the Tea Party's back in 2009—Occupy Wall Street wins out, Mashable notes.

The media has devoted only slightly more attention to OWS than to the Tea Party over the past few weeks, Google finds. Other tidbits: The states with the most searches for OWS are Vermont, Oregon, and New York, in that order, and Tea Party search traffic peaks around tax time. Google has already lent an indirect hand—via Android—to protesters. (More Google stories.)
