Libya's Jibril: 'Foreign Powers' Had Gadhafi Killed

Former Libyan opposition Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril suspects Moammar Gadhafi was “killed based on a request by a certain foreign power” who wanted him to remain “silent forever,” he told Bloomberg in a recent interview. He says if he’d had his way, Gadhafi would have been captured and tried, but “too many secrets could have been discovered. He was the black box of the whole country. He had too many wheelings and dealings with too many leaders in the world.”

It wasn’t long ago, Bloomberg notes, that Jibril was trying to drum up foreign help to oust Gadhafi, but now he seems suspicious of these former allies. “Because of the lack of state apparatus right now, every foreign power you can think of is trying to look after its own interests in Libya,” he says. “This is the name of the game.” He cited Qatar as the “most obvious” example, accusing it of meddling in Libyan politics.
