Military College Apologizes for Not Reporting Sex Abuse

The president of South Carolina military college The Citadel acknowledged yesterday that he should have reported the actions of summer camp counselor and alleged child sex abuser Louis "Skip" ReVille to police. "We're profoundly sorry, sorry that we didn't pursue it more. We acted on what we thought was our best information,” John Rosa said yesterday at a press conference. "I am saddened and sickened that someone so close has betrayed our trust."

ReVille was investigated by the college in 2007, but not reported. He was arrested last month on separate abuse charges. The Citadel also released documents yesterday related to the internal investigation, including a 160-page interview with ReVille’s accuser, and said it is sharing its information with police, Reuters reports. At the time the incident was investigated, "the way I understand the law … we were not required to mandatorily report," Rosa said. "That's certainly no excuse. The law has been changed.
